Anusa is an enigma. Born in 1975 in Masvingo, Zimbabwe to simple farming folk, he very soon discovered a love for stone and wood sculpting. This progressed to painting, under the mentorship of Helen Lieros at Gallery Delta in Harare.
Anusa’s unique and original work is charged with emotion, defined by his use of thick brush strokes and strong colour combinations. Perverse, sad, furious, joyful – his work is always provocative. He tends not to try to explain his work, rather allowing the viewer to interpret in his own way.
“I am fascinated by the human figure because through it, I can explore different themes and subject. I don’t confine myself to a particular theme whether political, social, sexual or gender related. I paint whatever I see or hear, what is around me at the time and what moves me.”
