George Masarira was born in Gokwe in 1990. In 2008, he began his training in design, ceramics and fine art at the Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre in Bulawayo, graduating in 2010. Although George majored in ceramics, he soon developed a great passion for painting.
George is a full-time painter and resident artist at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, where he has his own studio. He has exhibited extensively in Zimbabwe and internationally, including the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare; the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo; The Elephant Walk, Victoria Falls and at the Art Gallery of African Fantasy (Germany).
He continues to explore various media and content through experimental work.
“As an emerging artist, I see my art as a journey, painting what I see around me and about my feelings and experiences. I feel it is important as an artist to continue to grow by exploring fresh ideas and experimenting with new techniques. The vivid colour and movement reflects the hustle and bustle of life on the streets in Bulawayo as people go about their daily lives.”
