THE ZIMBABWE ROOM

The Zimbabwe Room is inspired by the remarkable Great Zimbabwe Ruins.  This room is decorated with a distinctive array of neutral fabrics and textures.  The colour palette of stone, cream and ochre is taken from the unique landscapes of Zimbabwe.  A striking carved installation by Wayne Stutchbury depicts the ancient stone geometric designs.  An outside seating area overlooks a life-sized elephant made from snares confiscated from poachers in the Gonarezhou National Park.

THE TANZANIA ROOM

Decorated in traditonal style with some interesting antique pieces and a spectacular four-poster bed, Tanzania is a hidden gem. The spacious bathroom carved out of cement is a “wet room”, with a free-standing Victorian bathtub placed in the centre. The Tanzania Room is upstairs and shares an extra sitting room area with the Botswana Room. These two rooms can be booked together for families or groups.

THE BOTSWANA ROOM

The decor in the Botswana Room is inspired by the sun-bleached neutral palette of the Kalahari Desert. The picture with its swirls of browns, ochres and yellows depicts ancient rock art. The basket lights and hanging mosquito nets gives one the illusion of being out under the stars. The cool cement bathroom with its basketry and simple wire work compliment the rustic African style of the room. Botswana Room is upstairs and shares an extra sitting room area with the Tanzania Room. These two rooms can be booked together for families or groups.

THE ETHIOPIA ROOM

The earthy tones of the Ethiopia Room are a reflection of the Horn of Africa. Ethiopian keepsakes and antique silver crucifixes adorn the walls. A wrought iron four poster bed, cow hide carpet and beaten metal mirror add an authentic feel.

THE SOUTH AFRICA ROOM

A colour explosion, the South Africa Room is a warm and inviting place to relax.  Known as “The Rainbow Nation”, the colours and paintings in the bedroom embody this description of South Africa.  Carved patterns and tiles decorate the cement headboard and bathroom with Zulu designs.  This is the most colourful lodge with bead work, wax print cloth and wire baskets that are a reflection of the creativity seen throughout the continent.

THE MALI ROOM

The Mali Room is furnished in a striking blend of creams and rich browns, echoing the colours of the Sahara.  It is decorated throughout with Dogon doors and ethnic stools, typical of this West African country.  The headboard of the king-size bed is hand-carved and clad with traditional mud cloth.  Bold ethnic cushions and crisp linen complete the look.  Mali has an outside garden patio and sitting area for you to enjoy.

THE MOZAMBIQUE ROOM

The inspiration for this room is the ocean.  An arresting display of organic driftwood furniture, exclusively designed by Wayne Stutchbury, evokes the intriguing natural beauty of the coastline. Carved fish for clothes hangers and shells hang as charms.  The white washed headboards are carved with sea creatures which is repeated in the bathroom. Natural fibres and fresh whites create a  backdrop which highlight the blue colours used in the room to signify the sea.

THE GHANA ROOM

Ghana is famous for its wood carving, Ashante stools, fertility dolls, basketry and Kente cloth.  We highlight the Ashante design in the carved furniture and cement work in the bathroom and the courtyard.  The cool greens and patterned cushions reflect the avenues lined with palm trees and tropical forests.  The tiling depicts the colours of Kente cloth. We have hung some fertility dolls on the walls inside, and mounted original barber shop signs on the verandah, to add authenticity.

THE CONGO ROOM

The Congo Room is decorated in tones of saffron & cinnamon, which complement the Congolese fabrics & artefacts.  A striking collection of Congolese Warrior shields are displayed and their pattern is repeated on the headboard and in the bathroom.   The room has a cement ceiling for people who do not like sleeping under thatch and only a little thatch over the sitting room area attached to the bedroom. The room is closest to the main lodge, dining and sitting areas.
